Greetings!

Each fall more than one hundred Fulbright Scholarship students from around the world come to attend universities throughout the Los Angeles area. IVCLA Citizen Diplomats take pride in welcoming these distinguished young students at our Annual Fulbright Luncheon in Malibu. This exciting event brings the world together for an afternoon where new friendships and connections are often created.

If you would like to become an IVCLA Citizen Diplomat or learn more about our work please contact Helen Paul at hpaul@ivcla.org.

British Member of Paliament
Visits Los Angeles
  Schiff_Smith
British Member of Parliament Angela Smith came to Los Angeles to shadow Adam Schiff, Congressman for the
29th District, over the weekend of September 12-14. Ms. Smith has been a Member of Parliament for Hillsborough since 2005. While visiting, she rode with Congressman Schiff in the 100th Anniversary Burbank High School parade, went to the dedication of Superprotonics's new building and attended the formal Pasadena Pops Gala.

Each year, the U.S. Department of State invites eight British Members of Parliament to come to the United States and shadow a Congressman/woman in Washington D.C. and then in a local district over a weekend. The goal of this program is to build relationships between British and American political representatives.

We would like to thank IVCLA Board Member Hud Warren, Principal at ChinaWest, LLC, for assisting with logistics during Ms. Smith's stay in Los Angeles.

 Biltmore Reception
IVCLA held a reception at the elegant Biltmore to bid farwell to international visitors from Argentina, Barbados, Costa Rica, India, Jordan, Kenya, Oman, People's Republic of China, Philippines, S. Korea and Zambia at the end of their three week stay in the U.S. The evening included presentations from visitors from Barbados, China, Oman and Zambia who spoke about the work that they are doing in their home country. The group was participating in a U.S. Department of State International Visitor Leadership Program on the topic of Organized Labor.

Citizen Diplomats and members of the Los Angeles community, including members of the Los Angeles Consular Corps came together for this special evening. We would like to thank the Millennium Biltmore Hotel for their warm hospitality with their generous contribution of outstanding fare and wine for all.
